Steel can be infinitely recycled and reused without any quality loss. Nucor steel products are made from an average of 71.4% recycled content, with some products containing almost 100% recycled content. We also recycle 92% of the dust from our electric arc furnaces (EAF).

OUR EFFICIENT PROCESS

ELECTRIC ARC FURNACES

For 50 years, Nucor has been making steel using an electric arc furnace (EAF) that melts recycled scrap and turns it into new steel. EAFs are far less energy intensive and more energy efficient than traditional blast furnace steel making. Electric arc furnaces allow us to produce less emissions than our competitors who often make steel by melting iron ore and coking coal.
