Dan DiMicco
PRESIDENT, CHAIRMAN & CEO
NUCOR CORPORATION

"At Nucor, you can take your career as far as you want it to go. You can be the best engineer you want to be. Or you can be the best manager you want to be. You can even be the best CEO."

Dan DiMicco joined Nucor in November 1982 as plant metallurgist. Soon became general manager of the Nucor-Yamato joint venture in Blytheville, Arkansas. Became vice president in January 1992. Became one of the original five executive vice presidents when Nucor expanded its leadership team for the first time beyond the CEO and CFO.

Then on Sept. 6, 2000, Nucor's board of directors elected Dan vice chairman, president and chief executive officer. In May 2006, Dan was elected chairman of the board.

Throughout his career, Dan has placed enormous value on his relationship with his employees. One of his first tasks upon being named Nucor's chief executive officer was to visit every Nucor facility to share ideas with employees throughout the company.

While holding workers responsible for results, Dan gives them wide latitude and broad responsibilities. For example, when Dan managed Nucor-Yamato Steel, the workers decided to change their schedules from eight-hour shifts, six days a week to 12-hour shifts, working four days on, then four days off. They made the change themselves; they didn't need Dan's approval.

Dan's accomplishments did not stop there. He has assumed a leadership role in the industry, becoming a sought after speaker and writer on trade policy, leadership and on success strategies for American steel mills.
